Robin Hood ARS finds assets, also termed unclaimed property, owed to heirs due to an inheritance unknown to them. We also research and locate assets totaling millions of dollars in unclaimed property owed to people, businesses and city, county and state agencies. These assets we locate are currently held by the State of California.
Before these assets were turned over ('"escheat") to the state, they were held by a financial institution that the claimant once had a relationship with, that has ended, or for some reason been severed or lost. This happens for many varied reasons, some being clerical errors, moving, quitting a job, losing a job, unreturned deposits, unused gift certificates, or forgotten accounts, etc. The original holder institutions are required by state and federal law to make efforts to locate the owners before they are required to turn over the unclaimed property to the state after a set period of time. Often times little real effort is taken by these institutions to locate the owners, and so, billions of dollars sit in the states controllers' offices unclaimed. It is estimated that more than 80% of American individuals and businesses may be owed money from unclaimed property assets.
